Learn more about Gdansk

Gdańsk, Danzig, City of Freedom – the Royal Capital of Pomerania stands proud on the shores of Baltic. Located in northern Poland in Pomeranian Voivodeship, Gdańsk boasts 470 907 citizens. It is visited by more than 3,000,000 tourists every year. One of the top hot spot destinations in the region, Gdańsk had surprisingly humble beginnings dating to more than 1000 years ago.

The very first mention of Gdańsk in written history goes as far as year 980 when St.Wojciech visited the Gydannyzc to proselytize the population. His valiant efforts made him be remembered as a saint patron of Gdańsk. The princes of Pomerania worked very hard over the next centuries to turn this small humble village into an increasingly more prominent trade and craft hub. This marks the start of Gdańsk’s tradition of cultural dialogue and inclusivity. Pomeranian Princes encouraged and invited their neighbors to come and visit, offering a place to stay for any crafters or traders looking to start a new business. This way, Gdańsk became richer and richer, while becoming increasingly multi-cultural. Openness and cultural freedom became defining perks of Gdańsk heritage, and remain to be that even today.
Gdańsk joined Poland peacefully in the year 1282, thanks to a diplomatic agreement of mutual cooperation. Together, we were stronger!

I highly recommend this company. The car for 6 people was waiting for us even before the scheduled time. The drivers were super nice and the car ( minibus) clean and comfortable. Good price too and you can pay in cash or credit card if you order via website.

FAQ

Here you can find answers for frequently asked questions.

Science Center Hevelianum is dedicated to making science as much fun as humanly possible. Kids love it! However, unlike many other child-oriented Science Centers, Hevelianum is not boring to adults either. If you expect it to be “dumbed down” for kids, you will be surprised! If you want to burn some excess energy along with the little ones, the trampoline park awaits! Jumpcity is the biggest and best jumping attraction in the Tricity, soaring high above any competition. If you want to show your kids something really pretty, take them to the Amber Museum! The simple beauty of amber captivates the hearts of both adults and children. It’s just so nice to look at. “Ludzie, Statki, Porty” (People, Ships, Ports) is an interactive exhibition that answers many questions you and your kids might have - for example, how does the mighty Crane work?! If you have a sailor-in-making in your family, let them play with ships and be a captain of one for a moment.

You simply cannot miss the Neptune’s Fountain! We recommend taking the Royal Route, walking through the Long Lane and visiting the Long Market. These aren’t the only regal things about the city, though! Have you heard that Gdańsk is considered to be World’s Capital of Amber? See it for yourself at the Amber Museum! Take a look at the Motlawa River Embankment while you are at it. Museum of the Second World War and Westerplatte are highly recommended. Do not skip!

Brzeźno pier and the Jelitkowo beach are amazing choices for your walk! Relax and breathe in that healthy famous sea breeze! Especially in the evening. You won’t regret it. Experience the tranquil calm of the sea and witness the beautifully illuminated horizon populated by tiny, far-away ships. If you want to take a look from above, Góra Gradowa is a fantastic scenic point. It is one of the best places to witness the panorama of Gdańsk. Another place to see is nearby Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz train station, and it is called Kuźniczki Park. Once you get there, you will understand why it is considered to be what makes the luxury district of the city beautiful! If you are in a more contemplative mood, Westerplatte is probably the most inspiring choice. The history embedded into that place will provoke thoughts and emotions you might not expect.
