Learn more about Poznan

Poznań started as a small village on Ostrów Tumski, founded around the Xth century. The tribe that is associated with Poznańsince beginning is the tribe of Polans, which later founded the country of Poland. So Poznań was super-Polish from the very beginning! Because of this, Poznań has been an important city. In fact, it is one of the most probable places for the Christianization of Poland to happen. We don’t know where exactly it took place, but most scholars agree Poznań would be the most likely site for the event to happen. The strategic location near the first capital of Poland, Gniezno, only made the position of Poznań stronger. During later years, Poznań faced some decline, being destroyed and rebuilt. The golden era of Poznań falls around the 1500-1650. Due to shifting trade routes, the city rose in prominence and became a bustling trading hub. This led to rapid expansion of its infrastructure, influx of immigrants both Polish, German, Italian, Scottish and Jewish. Jews in Poznań had special privileges, including self-governance. This is why there are so many amazing examples of Jewish heritage in Poznań, such as synagogues and cemeteries.
The only time Poznań was outside of Polish rule was during the Partitions. Still, even then, it was considered to be an incredibly Polish city, and became one of the icons of Polish resistance against their oppressors. It is known for its approach of “organic work” – trying to cultivate economic power of Poles while securing their identity as a nation – and for Greater Poland uprising.

I highly recommend this company. The car for 6 people was waiting for us even before the scheduled time. The drivers were super nice and the car (minibus) clean and comfortable. Good price too and you can pay in cash or credit card if you order via website.

Excellent company! We booked a transfer with the company as we were originally due to arrive at night. However, our flight was cancelled and we had to re-arrange both the dates and the hotel we were staying at. The driver who picked us up was very polite and waiting for us when we came out of the arrivals door, the vehicle was spotlessly clean as well. Recommend this company both for transfers and tours!
