Gran Canary, known for its countless breathtaking beaches, is a splendid choice for anybody looking for a seaside vacation. Also known as Tamarán (“Land of the Brave”) in the language of the indigenous Canarii, Gran Canary is often called a “small continent”. This is not because of its size, but because of how incredibly varied its natural landscapes are! When visiting the Gran Canary, you will witness contrasting climates that you would not believe could coexist next to each other.
UNESCO acknowledged this wonder of nature by making it a protected Biosphere Reserve. There are 32 Natural Protected Spaces, including Doramas Jungle, Timadaba, Pino Santo and many others. The Red Canaria de Espacios Naturales Protegidos covers more than half of the island. You will find six nature reserves, two integral nature reserves, two natural parks, two rural parks, ten natural monuments, seven protected landscapes and four sites of scientific interests there. Neat, huh? They are definitely worth seeing and appreciating! Of course, many of the millions of tourists visiting the island every year come there simply for the beach resorts. And there are countless of those!

Make sure to scale the Maspalomas Dunes and take a look from the Maspalomas lighthouse while at it. If you don’t know what kind of fun you are looking for, look for it at Yumbo Centre – with around 200 shops, restaurants and other enterprises, you are guaranteed to find something that will fit your fancy!
For those who want to see the islands from above, there is an Aeroclub in Tarajalillo scheduling overland flights for tourists. We also recommend relaxing in “Little Venezia” of Puerto Rico!
