Thus, this place resembles a mysterious labyrinth with a possibility to discover natural monuments and Miocene salt deposit. As of 2021, there are 16 World Heritage Sites in Poland. Both places are inscribed on the UNESCO list, along with the historic centre of Krakow. They are recognized for their extraordinary cultural or natural significance to the common heritage of humanity. The horrors linked to the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camps are associated with crimes against human beings and freedom. As a testimony to this severe violation of human rights resulted in the agony and murder of more than 1 million people, the place has been on the UNESCO list since 1979. Crowds of people visit Auschwitz every year despite the depressing nature of the concentration camp that makes visitors weep and cry. The Wieliczka Salt Mine is associated with a world-class natural monument making this place a historic landmark in Wieliczka, Poland. The site was inscribed on UNESCO's list in 1978 and resembles an underground city made of salt. The mine delivers an outstanding experience and a lot of walking through the winding corridors and mystical chambers. The first tourists explored their depths in the 15th century. Notable visitors of the salt mine involve Nicolaus Copernicus, Fryderyk Chopin or Pope John Paul II.

Very well-coordinated, accommodated my motion sickness request. The driver drove very nice, didn't feel too sick. The young tour guide at Auschwitz was a little difficult to understand and the salt mine was very interesting. Bring comfy shoes!!! Lots of walking!

A must-do if you visit Krakow. Booking the trip was easy and the trip was very professionally run. The transfer was very comfortable. It was very quick getting into Auschwitz with the guide who was also great and made the trip for me, giving us plenty of information and letting us take it all in. It was a very moving experience. The salt mine was very good also, and I would visit again. The whole day was good, it was a full day and I would consider both trips separately.

Getting into all the sites was quick and easy with MrShuttle sorting all the tickets. The guides provided at all sites were brilliant and very knowledgable. Lunch was excellent, plenty of tasty food to keep us going throughout the long day. Would highly recommend!

Auschwitz-Birkenau is the most well-known Nazi concentration camp, somehow a “point zero” for the history of other camps. Operating in 1940-1945, it ended up being the place of a massive extermination, not known to human history before. 1 million Jewish people were exterminated there, which also makes it the main place where Holocaust took place.

Auschwitz consisted of around 40 sub-camps, but the most tragic events happened in Auschwitz I (administrative headquarters) with Crematorium I and Birkenau (Auschwitz II) with crematoria II-V. The inmates in the first mass transport in June 1940 were political prisoners – Poles, there were around 700 of them. Ever since 1942 and Wannsee Conference, a massive transportation of Jews from all over Europe has started. Initially, Auschwitz was not a death camp and the first gassing was in September 1941 – it included Soviet soldiers and some of the most sick prisoners. The situation quickly changed, though.

Due to the great location of Oswiecim – the city where the camp was located – where railroad tracks from many places in Europe crossed their paths, it was possible to organise transports of Jews, Roma, Russians and various other nationalities. Auschwitz-Birkenau was the only Nazi concentration camp with such an organised number and tattooing system, which later allowed to estimate almost the exact number of prisoners/murdered there. There were around 1.3 million of inmates in Auschwitz-Birkenau during the 5 years of its existence, with approximately 1.1 million (mostly Jews) of them being killed.

Please remember to take comfortable shoes and warm clothes (the temperature in the mine ranges between 17° and 18°C). The route includes approx. 800 stairs, 380 of which are at the start.
