Discover Croatia
Although not the most obvious destination, Croatia has been gaining popularity in recent years and for good reason. This relatively small country has a long coastline, plenty of sunshine, waterfalls, historic towns, breathtaking national parks, and much more.
Why visit Croatia?
Croatia is a great destination if you’re looking for picturesque places and a sunny vacation without breaking the bank. Apart from natural wonders and Mediterranean climate, the country’s biggest advantage is its diversity. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing holiday by the sea for the whole family or a jam-packed weekend trip with lots of sightseeing, Croatia has it all. Nature lovers, partygoers, honeymooners and families with kids will all find something to do.
What’s the best time to visit Croatia
This depends on what your plans are and what you want to see. Croatia welcomes many tourists in the summer, so if you don’t like crowds and high temperatures, but would like to enjoy water sports and sunbathing, opt for visiting in June or September rather than July and August.
Best places to visit in Croatia
Among the most visited Croatian cities is Dubrovnik and we strongly recommend visiting it at least once. Often called “the Pearl of the Adriatic”, Dubrovnik is often a setting for movies, most famously Game of Thrones. Its impressive Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a walk along the city’s medieval walls to get the best view of the city is a must-do.
Split is another city on the Croatian coast worth a visit and easy to see on foot. The top sights include Diocletian’s Palace and the Cathedral of St Domnius. Split is also a great starting point if you’d like to take trips to other places in Croatia.
From Split, it is easy to get to Hvar island, a summer resort with many beaches, lots of sunshine, and lively nightlife. If your ideal holiday involves sunbathing, sailing and partying, this is likely the spot for you.
If you’re interested in a less crowded destination, consider Pula. This city is known for Roman ruins with the first-century Roman amphitheatre being the biggest highlight. Besides historic sights, it is also home to some pretty pebble beaches.
If you’re looking for a vibrant atmosphere, but a less touristy destination, Zagreb, is a good bet. Croatia’s capital has many interesting museums, impressive architecture and cool cafes. From Zagreb, you can also easily visit another great destination – Plitvice Lakes National Park. Located inland, it consists of 16 beautiful lakes, glorious waterfalls and lush forests. The well-marked trails and wooden walkways make this an ideal place to visit for those who want to spend a day or two in nature.
