  • 2
    Transfer to Stutthof (Sztutowo)

Depending on the traffic, the drive should take maximally one hour. During this time you can admire the scenery or learn about the concentration camp.

  • 3
    Visiting Stutthof Museum

A 2-hour long tour along the former concentration camp will introduce you to the heartbreaking history of Poland and other countries that suffered during World War II. An English-speaking guide will show you around and answer all the questions.

  • 4
    Free time

After the guided tour you will have approximately 20 minutes to buy souvenirs, contemplate or take photos.

  • 5
    Transfer and Hotel Drop off

Our driver will drop you off at the preferred location around 1 p.m. This means that you will still have plenty of time to explore the most popular sites in Gdansk.

Please note that all times are approximate and depend on traffic conditions and guides availability.

Winston Churchill once said that “a nation that forgets its past has no future”. In the years 1933 and 1945 Germans established more than 44 thousand concentration camps and ghettos where they forced people to exhausting work in private enterprises, businesses such as the German Equipment Works (DAW), or workshops. Millions of prisoners died of hunger and infections or were simply murdered.

The Stutthof concentration camp tour is dedicated to everyone wishing to discover 20th-century history and its impact on the local community living in Gdansk. This short trip takes approximately 4 hours as the camp is located only an hour's drive from the city center. Discover the devastating history and pay tribute to Holocaust victims.

Why visit Stutthof?

If you have already visited any of the concentration camps in Poland, you may wonder whether there is any point in going to another one. Although Auschwitz is the most notorious in Europe, Stutthof was the first Nazi death camp set up outside of Germany. Moreover, it was the last of such horrendous locations to be discovered - the Stutthof concentration camp was placed among secluded trees and liberated by the Soviets on 9th May 1945.

It’s worth mentioning that Stutthof was a particularly diversified Nazi death camp with prisoners from 28 countries, including Poland, Germany, France, Norway, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, or Russia. 110,000 innocently incarcerated Polish and Lithuanian intelligentsia, psychiatric patients and Soviet war prisoners suffered unimaginably terrifying conditions that caused infectious diseases, including typhus.

Follow the historical path of the concentration camp

Germans established the Stutthof concentration camp in September 1939 in a small town located approximately 22 miles from Gdansk.

If you choose services offered by MrShuttle, you will have an opportunity to visit both new and old camp quarters, pay tribute to the Holocaust victims who died in gas chambers, and reflect on the history while being surrounded by barbed wire fences.

Remember that the museum allows you to bring in bags or backpacks that are maximally 30 x 20 x 10 cm big. However, it’s always possible to leave unnecessary items in our vehicle.

What else to explore when visiting Gdansk?

As this tour isn’t the longest one in our offer and you will probably be back in Gdansk at 1 p.m., you will have plenty of time to explore other remarkable landmarks of this charming city with an incredibly rich and astonishing history.

Gdansk is a harbor city on the Baltic Coast. It abounds in hi-tech museums, mesmerizing cafes, restaurants, and attractions that entice tourists 24/7. When walking along the city center, it’s impossible not to notice Neptune’s Fountain which is a bronze sculpture created in the 17th century. It’s one of the most remarkable landmarks of Gdansk, therefore, devote a minute to admire the buzzing city and its unique architecture.

St. Mary’s Basilica is an extraordinary Roman Catholic shrine built in the 14th century. It’s known for being one of the amplest brick churches in the world. If the weather is satisfactory, you can climb the tower to see the captivating cityscape.

The Crane built in the 15th century to transfer cargoes is another noteworthy site. It used to be the greatest operating crane in the world and it functioned as a city gate. Today, it serves a purely decorative function but it’s definitely worth checking it out, soaking up the sun and stopping at a local restaurant to drink delicious wine, taste traditional Polish cuisine with a touch of modernity, and admire breathtaking, romantic views.

If you are planning to stay in Gdansk for a few days, you must visit the Westerplatte peninsula where the Germans attacked Poland on September 1 in 1939. Today, the site is an outdoor museum which commemorates events that took place during World War II.

Extraordinary St. Dominic’s Fair and Museum of the WWII

Planning to explore Gdansk during the summer months? If so, you will be really lucky to see the unprecedented and magical St. Dominic’s Fair. It takes place only once a year, in summer, when city streets are filled with markets and food stalls. Experience the festive atmosphere that shows Polish attachment to tradition.

The Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk is a modern and astonishing tourist attraction definitely recommended to everyone willing to imagine what Poland and Europe looked like during WWII. It was opened in March 2017 and it definitely is one of the most noteworthy and engaging museums in Poland. However, if you are planning to visit it, make sure you have at least half a day spare, as two or three hours won’t be enough to delve into the history.
