A guided tour of Gibraltar from Costa del Sol

Kill two birds with one stone while on your trip to Costa del Sol. Located around 135 km (84 miles) from Malaga, Gibraltar offers an exciting opportunity to experience a bit of British culture on the Iberian Peninsula. Although small in size (about 2,7 square miles or less than 7 square km), this British territory right next to Andalusia has a lot to offer, plus it's a perfect destination for day tours.

Despite its proximity to the Spanish Costa del Sol, Gibraltar is not that easy to reach. Public transport is not really an option and going by car can be challenging due to limited parking spaces. Save yourself the headache by booking our Gibraltar sightseeing tour with transportation included. The only thing you'll have to worry about is food, but with a plethora of restaurants around Casemates Square and Main Street, it shouldn't be too big an issue.

Gibraltar: what's the deal?

This small piece of land can be the cause of a lot of confusion for many. Located in the south of Spain, but a British Overseas Territory?

Gibraltar is a place of significant strategic importance as it guards the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. Inhabited by the Moors in the Middle Ages, it was later fought over by Spain, France and Britain. It ended up in the hands of the British as a result of the Spanish War of Succession and the Treaty of Utrecht (1713) under which Gibraltar was ceded to Great Britain. As you can imagine, still to this day it is a reason for tensions between Spain and the UK.

Gibraltar sightseeing tour with MrShuttle

Our exciting Gibraltar sightseeing tour will start early in the morning (7 am) in Malaga. You also have an option of joining us from other nearby cities on Costa del Sol like Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Marbella or Estepona. Please refer to the "Pickup point" information at the bottom of this page for approximate times. The approximately 2-hour ride to Gibraltar will be a breeze in a comfortable and air-conditioned vehicle. Once we make it to our destination, you'll be collected by a local guide to properly explore this tiny territory.

During the Gibraltar sightseeing tour, you'll get to see the most popular attractions like the port of Gibraltar, the walled inner city, Europa Point and St. Michael's Cave. You'll also make it to a viewing point on the Rock of Gibraltar to take some incredible photos. Did you know that on a clear day you can see the Mediterranean, Spain and Morocco from the Rock of Gibraltar? We think that's a big enough reason to visit Gibraltar. Here is a quick overview of the most important places you'll see during this guided tour:

  • Rock of Gibraltar - Gibraltar's highlight, the Rock of Gibraltar, is almost 1,400 feet high and visible from wherever you are in Gibraltar. You have probably heard that wild monkeys are a common sight in Gibraltar and you'll likely have a chance to see them somewhere on the Rock during your trip. Its upper part is a nature reserve inhabited by Barbary macaques. This is the only wild population of monkeys in Europe which makes this place even more unique. Just remember that it's forbidden to feed them and they can be rather mischievous.
  • Saint Michael Caves (entrance included) - The Rock of Gibraltar is home to over 150 caves, a result of erosion of the limestone rock. Saint Michael's Cave is the largest of them and the most popular among visitors. It's so large that during World War II it was used as an ammunition store and even a hospital. Today, the biggest chamber (Cathedral Cave) of Saint Michael's Caves functions as an auditorium and hosts concerts due to its natural acoustic properties. When booking our Gibraltar full day tour, you don't have to worry about the St. Michael Caves entrance fee as it's already included in the price of this sightseeing tour.
  • Europa Point - If you want to stand on the southernmost point of Gibraltar, Europa Point is the place. Situated at the end of the Rock of Gibraltar, it is flat and home to a lighthouse, the Harding's Battery and the most southerly mosque in Europe. If you're lucky and the weather is on your side, you'll get to see North Africa over the Strait of Gibraltar. The most popular building in this area is the Trinity Lighthouse (the only building outside of England that is operated by Trinity House). The lighthouse's beam can reportedly be seen some 27 km away.

Once the guided walking tour is over, you'll have some time to enjoy lunch, walk along Main Street and do some shopping. You'll meet your guide again at the agreed time and place and have a ride back to Costa del Sol.
