Kraków: The World’s Cleanest City?

Kraków has gained international recognition after being ranked the cleanest city in the world in a study by Radical Storage. Could Kraków be the world’s cleanest city? As a result, the Polish city took first place among approximately 100 popular travel destinations. Moreover, 98.5% of the reviews analysed expressing positive opinions about cleanliness.

The results show how visitors perceive the condition of popular tourist attractions around the world. Therefore, for travellers planning a European city break, this is another reason to consider Kraków for their next trip.

How was the ranking created, and what do the results actually tell us?

How Was the Kraków Cleanliness Ranking Created?

First, the ranking was published by Radical Storage, a luggage storage service. Researchers selected 100 cities featured in Euromonitor’s Top 100 City Destinations Index. Then they analysed Google reviews of their leading tourist attractions.

The study covered more than 70,000 reviews published between October 2024 and November 2025. To ensure consistency across all destinations, only English-language reviews were included. Researchers searched for terms related to cleanliness, including “clean” and “dirty”, and assessed the overall sentiment of the comments.

In Kraków, 98.5% of the 456 reviews identified as relevant to cleanliness were positive. Consequently, this result secured the city’s first-place position in the ranking.

However, it is important to remember something. The ranking reflects visitors’ opinions of popular attractions. It does not replace an independent inspection of every street and neighbourhood. Nevertheless, it offers valuable insight into how international travellers perceive Kraków.

Kraków Takes the Lead Ahead of Sharjah and Singapore.

Kraków’s first-place finish in the cleanest cities in the world ranking comes with an interesting surprise. The Polish city ranked ahead of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates and Singapore. Both of these destinations are also recognised for their clean and well-maintained urban environments.

According to the Radical Storage study, 98.5% of cleanliness-related reviews analysed for Kraków were positive. Sharjah followed in second place with 98%, while Singapore ranked third with 97.9%.

Although the differences between the cities are relatively small, the results put Kraków at the top of the ranking. This achievement brings further international attention to Poland’s historic city as a destination worth discovering.

Why Does Cleanliness Matter When Choosing a Travel Destination?

When planning a holiday, we usually consider landmarks, accommodation, restaurants and transport. However, the condition of public spaces also plays a role in shaping the overall travel experience.

Well-maintained streets, clean squares and pleasant pedestrian areas make exploring a city more comfortable. They also contribute to a unique atmosphere. Visitors experience this while walking between attractions, stopping at cafés, or discovering less familiar parts of a destination.

In Kraków, much of the experience involves exploring the historic centre on foot. Therefore, the appearance of public spaces is particularly important.

Positive experiences of the surrounding environment can become an important part of a city’s reputation. As a result, they encourage more travellers to visit.

What Makes Kraków Stand Out from Other Cities?

The ranking highlights the positive cleanliness ratings visitors gave to Kraków’s attractions. However, the city also has other qualities that make it an appealing destination to explore on foot.

A Historic Centre Perfect for Walking

Kraków’s Old Town features historic architecture, pedestrian-friendly streets and squares that attract visitors throughout the year. The Main Market Square and the surrounding streets allow travellers to discover the city at their own pace. Moreover, the routes leading towards Wawel Castle offer the same freedom.

Walking through the city makes it possible to notice the smallest details. These elements create Kraków’s distinctive atmosphere, from historic façades to cafés and quieter corners away from the busiest routes.

Public Spaces That Shape the City’s Atmosphere

Squares, pavements, parks and riverside paths are important parts of any city break. In Kraków, the Main Market Square and the Vistula Boulevards offer great opportunities. You can take a break from indoor sightseeing and enjoy the city outdoors.

Their appearance and maintenance contribute to the overall impression visitors take away with them after their trip.

A Blend of History and Modern City Life

Kraków is not simply an open-air museum. However, it is a vibrant city where historic streets sit alongside cafés, restaurants, shops and residential neighbourhoods.

This allows visitors to experience both the city’s cultural heritage and its everyday atmosphere. It is this combination that makes Kraków an appealing destination for people travelling to Poland.

Kraków Is Not the Only Polish City Recognised in the Ranking.

Poland performed well in the Radical Storage study. Warsaw also secured a place among the top five cities, with 97.8% of the cleanliness-related reviews analysed expressing positive opinions.

The results highlight the positive cleanliness ratings received by both Polish cities. Instead, they reflect visitor reviews rather than comprehensive measurements of cleanliness across every public space.

Planning a Visit to Kraków? Make Your Journey Easier!

Exploring a city is more enjoyable when the practical details are taken care of. If you are planning a trip to Kraków, it is worth considering your transport options. Specifically, think about how you will get from the airport to your accommodation and travel around during your stay.

The historic centre is best explored on foot, while public transport provides convenient connections to other parts of the city. A pre-booked private airport transfer is another practical option. Specifically, it helps families, travellers with luggage, or passengers arriving late at night.

You might also be planning excursions beyond Kraków. Therefore, private transport can make it easier to organise journeys to destinations across southern Poland.

Arranging your transport in advance allows you to spend more time exploring and less time coordinating your travel arrangements.

Discover Kraków for Yourself

The Radical Storage study highlights Kraków’s strong cleanliness ratings among visitors to its popular attractions. The findings reflect online reviews rather than an objective assessment of the entire city. Truly, they still offer an interesting perspective on Kraków as a travel destination.

You might be planning a weekend city break or a longer trip around Poland. Ultimately, Kraków offers the opportunity to explore historic streets, enjoy its public spaces, and experience the city’s distinctive atmosphere.
