A few words about Krakow, Poland

Apart from being among the European cities with the longest history, Krakow is also one of Poland's most visited places. Located in the south of Poland, in the Lesser Poland province to be exact, it is one of the country's oldest cities. Until the end of the 16th century, Krakow was the country's capital. Even after the capital was moved to Warsaw, the city continued to be one of the leading academic and cultural centres in Poland.

The Wawel Castle, the Old Town and John Paul II

The Wawel Castle, situated next to the Vistula River (the longest river in Poland), is where most of the Polish kings lived and were buried. If you're a fan of royal insignia, valuable jewellery and old weapons, you can stop by the Crown Treasury located in the cellars of the Wawel Castle. Krakow is also home to Jagiellonian University, the oldest university in Poland (founded in 1364). Something you may not know is that Krakow's historic centre (i.e. the Old Town, The Wawel Royal Castle and the Kazimierz district) entered the first UNESCO World Heritage list in 1978. The main square in Krakow is the largest medieval square in Europe and the heart of the city. Another interesting fact is that Pope John Paul II lived in Krakow until 1978 when he moved to the Vatican.

What makes Krakow such a popular destination in Poland, apart from its rich history and architecture, is also its proximity to the Tatra Mountains and Zakopane (around 60 miles away). There is also the Auschwitz Concentration Camp Museum around 40 miles away and salt mines approximately 9 miles away. As you can see, a trip to Krakow, Poland means a plethora of attractions that are worth visiting. Don't worry if creating an ideal Krakow itinerary feels overwhelming. Our offering is here to make your visit to Krakow easy and unforgettable. The best part is that you don't even have to move a finger. Well, apart from clicking on the "book this tour" button.

Are 3 days in Krakow enough?

Most of the city's highlights like Florian's Gate, the Cloth Hall, St Mary's Basilica and the Wawel Cathedral are easy to access. They can be found in the Old Town area so you can easily tick them off your list in a day or two. However, some of the most popular points of interest are outside of Krakow. We mean in particular the Wieliczka Salt Mine and Auschwitz-Birkenau. If these two sites were high on your list of places to visit while in Poland, then your 3 days in Krakow would be packed. You would have a lot of heavy sightseeing, planning and figuring out public transport to do. Fortunately, with Mr.Shuttle you can easily visit Auschwitz and Wieliczka without missing out on all the other highlights in the city. And yes, if you choose to book with us, then 3 days in Krakow will be enough. Just keep in mind that you may want to extend your visit or come back to Krakow because the city can be addictive!

3 days in Krakow itinerary with Mr.Shuttle

Don't believe that you can get a proper taste of Krakow in 3 days? Let us give you a brief summary of just what our Krakow 3-day Package entails. First of all, we will organize your accommodation so you don't have to waste your time searching for one. The Krakow 3-day Package includes 2 nights at Angel House Premium B&B, a comfortable and stylish place located right in the Old Town.

Now that we've got that one out of the way, let's go over the itinerary.

Day 1: Auschwitz-Birkenau and the Wieliczka Salt Mine Day Trip

You will start your stay in Krakow, Poland, with a day trip to Auschwitz Concentration Camp. The drive there will take around 1 hour and 15 minutes during which you'll watch a documentary as an introduction to the death camps. We warn you that the trip to Auschwitz may stir up some unpleasant emotions as you realize the extent of human suffering that this place witnessed during World War II. However, we personally think it's a place that should be visited when visiting Krakow. During the guided tour of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, you will see the barracks, crematorium, gas chambers and exhibitions of belongings left behind by the prisoners of the camp.

The visit through the Auschwitz camp will take around 2 hours and after that we will drive you to the second place on the day's itinerary - the salt mines. This underground world will likely fill you with wonder as you see the underground salt lakes and chambers made of salt. Just make sure to take a warm hoodie for this part of the trip as the temperature there is around 16-17 °C.

Day 2: The Market Square with St Mary's Basilica, the Wawel Castle and the Jewish District - a walk around the city of Krakow

After your trip to Wieliczka and Auschwitz Museum, you can fully focus the remaining days in Krakow on the city. As we've mentioned earlier, your accommodation is conveniently located in the Old Town which means that you will be just a few steps from Krakow's main square. So, your itinerary for the second day in Krakow? Seeing the city's highlights!

You will start with the Main Market Square where you can see the Town Hall Tower, St Mary's Basilica and the Cloth Hall. From the main square, you will continue along the Royal Road to the Wawel Royal Castle and the Wawel Cathedral. Don't forget to ask about the Wawel dragon during this part of the tour!

Once you soak in the medieval sights of Krakow, you will visit Kazimierz district (also referred to as the Jewish Quarter) which used to be home to many Jewish inhabitants until World War II when they were moved to the Krakow Ghetto by the Nazis. Kazimierz district has a distinct atmosphere and is one of the most popular areas in Krakow among tourists and locals. In the Old Jewish Quarter, you will see Plac Nowy and visit Oskar Schindler's Factory Museum which you may know from Steven Spielberg's movie Schindler's List.

Day 3: Enjoy Krakow the way you want and a transfer back to the airport

On the third day, whatever the time of your departure, you can be sure that we will drive you back to Krakow Balice Airport. Just let us know when you'd like to be picked up and our driver will be there. If you have a later flight, you can spend some time strolling around the Krakow city centre, take another look at the Wawel Castle, enjoy a cup of coffee on the market square or visit some other places in the city, for example, the Kościuszko Mound. If time allows, we recommend a visit to Rynek Underground Museum below the Cloth Hall building where you can have a look at what the main market square looked like in the Middle Ages.
