Best Kyiv (Kiev) tours with MrShuttle

Going to the capital of Ukraine and looking for something to do there? As one of the oldest and most underrated cities in Europe, Kiev has many unique things to offer. Kyiv is home to a number of attractions, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites like The Monastery of the Caves and the stunning Saint Sophia Cathedral. On top of that, Kiev boasts one of the deepest metro stations (Arsenala Metro Station) in the world. As you can imagine it became quite a tourist attraction as well. Apart from those, Kiev is a great starting point for tours to some interesting places in Ukraine. If you want to make your travel to Ukraine more memorable and exciting, book one of our Kiev tours with an English-speaking local guide. Whether you’re looking for walking tours around Kiev that last a few hours or a full-day trip beyond the city to experience the best places in Ukraine, you’ll find it here.

Kiev or Kyiv? Which is correct?

Before we move on to the travel part, let’s start with this essential tidbit of information. Although ‘Kiev’ is the most-widely used spelling in the English-speaking world, be aware that it may be offensive to the Ukrainian people as it is the Russian transliteration. The correct and official spelling is ‘Kyiv’. In fact, the name of the Ukrainian capital (Kyiv) originated from ‘Kyi’, one of the city’s founders. Due to the fact that most English-speaking readers know it as Kiev, in this text we use ‘Kiev’ and ‘Kyiv’ interchangeably.

Check out MrShuttle’s top tours in Kiev

MShuttle offers around 10 tours in Kiev. Make sure to check out all of them so that nothing of interest passes you by. Without much ado, have a look below at our small guide of hand-picked Kiev tours that you should experience!

Kiev and Maidan Sightseeing – the ultimate walking tour

If you’re visiting Kyiv for the very first time and want to discover all the must-see attractions with a guide, this walking tour should be on the top of your list. You can join our friendly group and a local, English-speaking guide for around 6 hours and see top sights such as the astonishing Saint Sophia’s Cathedral that was built in the 11th century. We will start our tour on the European Square near the People’s Friendship Arch and then stroll down Kiev’s main street, Khreshchatyk, to the infamous Maidan. Next, our tour will stop by the previously-mentioned masterpiece that is Kiev’s longest-standing church (named after Haga Sofia in Instanbul). Once that is checked off your list, you’ll get to discover the charming Andrew’s Descent, one of Kiev’s oldest streets. Don’t forget to buy souvenirs here! We will then walk around Podil, a quirky neighborhood with a lot of history. Finally, we will finish the day with a panoramic view of Kiev.

There will be a lot of walking involved so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. Not into walking that much? No worries! You can opt for the shorter Kiev sightseeing tour that will take around 3 hours and will involve a comfortable car or van (depending on the size of the group) to drive you around.

Chernobyl Exclusion Zone – not a typical day tour

If you want to experience something really astounding during your Ukrainian travel, a Chernobyl tour from Kiev is arguably the best trip that you could plan. You’ve most likely heard about it or watched HBO’s miniseries. Keep in mind that due to the high radiation you can visit Chernobyl and Pripyat only with an authorized guide, so make sure to book your trip in advance to not miss out. Luckily, MrShuttle offers a one-day Chernobyl and Pripyat tour so you can conveniently save your spot in just a few clicks. During this one-day tour, you will get to experience first-hand the place of the Chernobyl disaster that happened in 1986. You will see the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the Ghost town of Pripyat, and many abandoned buildings. While this tour can be a bit spooky, it is also a fascinating and unique experience. Most importantly, you don’t have to worry about your safety as our professional tour guide knows their way around. Of course, the guide will speak English so that you can understand everything with ease.

Would you rather go on a private tour with your own group and have the tour guide all to yourself? That’s okay as well! Book our Private Exclusive Chernobyl tour and enjoy it to the fullest. And if you’d like to discover Chernobyl in a slightly different way, check out our Chernobyl air tour or Kayak Canoe Chernobyl tours. Naturally, all of them pass the safety test.

Slavutych tours – further travel into Ukraine

This is one of the less obvious destinations in Ukraine, but very interesting. Slavutych is the last city built by the Soviet Union to replace Pripyat after the Chernobyl disaster. It is located a bit over 2 hours from Kiev and not so easy to reach with public transport. Fortunately, with MrShuttle you can get there without issue. The city is divided into 8 districts, each named after the capital cities of 8 Soviet Republics which helped during the construction. As a result, you can walk around the “Tallinn” or “Yerevan” districts and experience their different styles. At MrShuttle we offer you three Slavutych tours from Kiev, so you can select the one that fits your schedule best. You can choose a one-day tour or a two-day tour to Slavutych, or a two-day tour that includes a visit to both Slavutych and Chernobyl Exclusion zone. Apart from walking around the town, the tours include a visit to the Chernobyl museum, as well as an exciting meet and greet session with the town’s residents and the employees of the nuclear plant.

Taytem tour – travel back in time

If you’re still hungry for more of Ukraine or are a history buff, or just fascinated with weapons and the Cold War, check out this Taytem tour. MrShuttle will give you a ride to the Strategic Missile Forces Museum located about 4 hours from Kiev. During the tour, you will see different military equipment and the control center, and get a big dose of interesting facts about Ukraine and its role in the Cold War, as well as the Soviet Union’s nuclear weapons. You’ll also have the opportunity to see with your own eyes the R-36M missile that earned the nickname “Satan” – you can probably guess why! Yes, it was one of the most dangerous weapons of mass destruction. Of course, the tour will be accompanied by an expert guide.

Make sure to check out all of our Kiev tours and if you have any doubts, don’t be shy. Just contact us and we’ll be eager to answer all your questions. We’re looking forward to meeting you in Ukraine!

I highly recommend this company. The car for 6 people was waiting for us even before the scheduled time. The drivers were super nice and the car ( minibus) clean and comfortable. Good price too and you can pay in cash or credit card if you order via website.
