First stop - the John Paul II Museum in Wadowice
Although the tour usually starts with visiting the town of Wadowice, we strive to live up to the expectations of our clients, therefore, in special circumstances, it’s possible to alter the itinerary.
When thinking about the life journey of the pope, it’s unimaginable not to mention Wadowice where Karol Wojtyla spent his childhood and youth. The classic scenario assumes that our tour begins with a visit to the John Paul II Museum located in the family home of the Wojtyla’s family.
After seeing what the pope’s life looked like almost a hundred years ago, our guide will take you to a local church where John Paul II was baptised. It’s an unprecedented opportunity to reflect on your choices and experience a deep connection to the faith.
Conclude this part of the tour by devouring the iconic “kremówka” cake frequently referred to by the pope. Wadowice offers the finest and most traditional sweets of this type and if you appreciate Karol Wojtyla’s sense of humour, you must have heard about his frequent trips to confectionaries.
Second stop - Kalwaria Zebrzydowska surrounded by mystical pathways
The Kalwaria Zebrzydowska park is our second stop on the tour. As the mom of John Paul II passed away when he was a kid, the boy was raised by a father who would frequently take him to Kalwaria. The complex dates back to the XVII century and was awarded a World Heritage Site label by UNESCO in 1999.
Kalwaria can boast the longest Way of the Cross with 28 stations that attract even 2 millions pilgrimages a year. Apart from that, you can devote an hour spent there to reflection in 42 chapels named after the places in Holy Land and Jerusalem. It’s an ideal heritage site to reinforce your faith and contemplate the life journey of the pope.
The last stop - Łagiewniki and the honoured Sanctuary of Divine Mercy
The astonishing Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Łagiewniki, Kraków is our last stop. This Roman Catholic basilica is the resting place of Faustyna Kowalska who was canonized in 2000.
The building originally housed the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy monastery founded in the XIX century. When the remains of sister Faustina were moved there in 1966, cardinal Karol Wojtyla designated the church as a shrine.
The sanctuary is renowned for the original Image of the Divine Mercy painted by Adolf Hyła on the basis of the devotion initiated by saint Faustyna. The author wanted to express his gratitude for the survival during World War II which makes visitors realize that there are even more reasons to reevaluate their lives and appreciate boundless opportunities.
Once you finish your quiet time, you can go to Faustina’s chapel at the Sanctuary and climb the tower to admire breathtaking views. On a clear day, it’s even possible to observe the Tatra mountains.
After such a spiritual tour, MrShuttle will take you directly to your hotel, apartment or other indicated location where you can conveniently relax and prepare for other eventful days.
