The tour is led by a certified tour leader and museum-appointed guide, providing powerful insight into the Holocaust and World War II atrocities committed at the site. It is one of the most comprehensive ways to visit Auschwitz with respect, understanding, and historical accuracy.

  • Duration: Approximately 7 hours
  • Departure: Daily departures from Krakow

Why Visit Auschwitz Birkenau Memorial?

Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Auschwitz Birkenau Memorial is unlike any other place in the world. More than 1.1 million people were murdered here, and the site remains a symbol of unimaginable cruelty—and the importance of never forgetting.

The Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp complex included Auschwitz I, the administrative heart, and Auschwitz II Birkenau, which became an extermination camp with gas chamber ruins and crematoria. The Birkenau Memorial and Museum serves to honour these lives and share their stories through preserved buildings, exhibitions, and original museum grounds. Anyone who decides to visit Auschwitz walks through history - and remembrance.

Detailed Trip Itinerary

1. Hotel Pickup

Your Auschwitz tour begins with a hotel pickup between 5:30 and 7:30 AM, depending on the meeting point and the season. During high season, pickups might start earlier to avoid crowds and high temperatures. Exact timing is always confirmed via email and text.

2. Transfer with Educational Documentary

During the journey time, passengers will watch a documentary movie that provides historical background on Auschwitz Birkenau Memorial, helping frame the emotional and educational experience ahead. The documentary prepares you for what it means to visit Auschwitz thoughtfully and respectfully.

3. Auschwitz I – The Administrative Centre

At Auschwitz I, you will visit the museum grounds that include original barracks, exhibitions, and the first gas chamber. The Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp began here as the administrative heart of the Nazi regime’s killing operation. The museum tour here lasts about 2 hours and is led by a museum-certified tour leader. Your visit to Auschwitz starts with learning, reflection, and direct encounters with preserved history.

4. Auschwitz II Birkenau – The Extermination Camp

Next, the tour continues to Auschwitz II Birkenau, the largest portion of the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp. Here you’ll pass the death gate, walk the railway ramp, and see remnants of gas chambers, crematoria, and wooden barracks. This part of the Auschwitz Birkenau guided tour takes approximately one hour. It is a deeply moving part of your visit to Auschwitz, where the true scale of the atrocities becomes real.

5. Return Transfer to Krakow

Following this deeply emotional and reflective visit to the Birkenau Memorial and Museum, you will be returned to your meeting point or hotel in Krakow via our comfortable vehicle. Your Auschwitz tour concludes with space for quiet thought and remembrance.

The Importance of Auschwitz Birkenau Guided Tour

To take part in an Auschwitz Birkenau guided tour is to engage directly with history. The tour provides not just facts and figures but emotional insights into the tragedy that unfolded here. The gas chamber ruins you’ll see serve as lasting reminders of the human cost of hatred. Your visit to Auschwitz will reinforce the need to remember, educate, and resist discrimination in all its forms.

The Auschwitz Birkenau Memorial site also plays a crucial role in school education across Europe. Many students visit Auschwitz annually as part of their learning about World War II and the Holocaust. Seeing the gas chambers, walking between the barracks, and standing on the museum grounds is a form of active learning that no textbook can replicate. If you haven’t yet decided to visit Auschwitz, this is your sign to do so.

We booked quite last minute, after seeing the company recommended on a Facebook group. It was a seamless experience. Although it was an early start, we were the first group to arrive at Birkenau which make the experience even more poignant. We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel. Both our driver and the tour guide were fantastic. We would highly recommend using Mr Shuttle. Thank you.

Auschwitz-Birkenau stands as the most infamous Nazi concentration camp, serving as a pivotal epicenter in the history of similar facilities. Operational from 1940 to 1945, it emerged as a site of unprecedented mass extermination. This dark chapter witnessed the tragic demise of one million Jewish individuals, establishing it as the primary location of the Holocaust.

Comprising roughly 40 sub-camps, Auschwitz’s most harrowing events unfolded in Auschwitz I, the administrative headquarters with Crematorium I, and Birkenau (Auschwitz II) with crematoria II-V. The initial influx in June 1940 included around 700 political prisoners, primarily Poles. However, following the Wannsee Conference in 1942, a systematic transportation of Jews from across Europe commenced. While Auschwitz initially wasn’t designed as a death camp, the paradigm shifted with the first gas chamber operation in September 1941, involving Soviet soldiers and severely ill prisoners.

The strategic location of Oswiecim, where the camp was situated, facilitated the organized transportation of Jews, Roma, Russians, and individuals from diverse nationalities due to the convergence of railroad tracks from various European regions. Auschwitz-Birkenau uniquely implemented a systematic numbering and tattooing system, contributing to a nearly precise estimation of the total number of inmates and casualties. Over its five-year existence, approximately 1.3 million individuals were incarcerated in Auschwitz-Birkenau, with about 1.1 million, predominantly Jews, meeting a tragic end.

We employ a modern fleet of Mercedes-Benz Vans and Minibuses for our transportation services. Our drivers are extensively trained and possess full licenses for ground transportation. Enjoy the convenience of our door-to-door service, where you’ll be picked up directly from your hotel and returned to the same location after the tour, all at no additional cost.
